ATM robberies

An average of €1.6 million has been stolen from Portugal’s cash machines annually in the last five years, according to data from the Polícia Judiciária’s National Anti-Terrorism Unit.

A total of 843 ATM robberies took place in that period and 337 of those resulted in the thieves getting away with money.

In its report, the PJ also revealed that 48 ATM thefts were reported between May and December last year, with 21 of those resulting in money being stolen.
