Athletes swim for cancer research

Portuguese swimmer Paulo Sousa (pictured), accompanied by the Triathlon and Masters teams of the O2-Portimão Association, will be swimming from Praia da Batata in Lagos to Praia da Rocha on Sunday, August 25, in support of cancer research.

Sousa is expected to be four hours at sea. His departure from Lagos is scheduled for 10am and his arrival at Praia da Rocha is predicted to be at around 2pm. The experienced athlete, who is used to competing at this level, will be swimming the entire course, 14kms, while his supporting teams will be conducting relay races.

The group will be swimming nearly 300 metres away from the coastline, while on the shore volunteers will be receiving donations at Meia Praia in Lagos and the Portimão beaches.

Last year, O2-Portimão organised a Lagos to Carvoeiro swimming course which raised €318 for the Portuguese Cancer League (Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro). This year, the association is looking to tally up a larger amount for the cause and is hoping that beachgoers will display their solidarity with donations.
