Association against new road link

An environmental association has voiced its opposition to a new road link to be built between São Brás de Alportel and Faro.

In a statement, Al-Portel Association for the Defence of the Environment and Heritage of São Brás de Alportel said: “This new route is a senseless assault on São Brás de Alportel and will mistreat its natural heritage.

“Effectively, it will be a new highway that will tear up the natural landscapes of São Brás de Alportel, leaving a scar in the council which is contrary to the ideal of a peaceful town and a county that is promoted for its beauty and natural resources.”

Al-Portel is to schedule a meeting with the authorities responsible for the road project, which is available for public consultation until December 10 at São Brás de Alportel and Faro Câmaras.

Residents may submit, in writing, any complaints or relevant information about the impact this project might have in the area, to the Portuguese Environmental Agency (Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente) at Rua da Murgueira, 9/9ª,  Zambujal, Apartado 7585-2611-865, Amadora.
