Around 775 fresh eggs and 19.8 tons of egg products were confiscated by ASAE, Portugal’s food and economic safety authority, at an egg packing centre in Leiria earlier this week.
It all happened during a routine inspection, ASAE said in an official statement.
Inspectors found that, among other offences, the eggs were “untraceable and had an incorrect expiration date”. The confiscated goods are believed to be worth around €133,000.
