AS Roma general manager hails “very positive experience” in Albufeira
Italian club AS Roma, managed by Portuguese star manager José Mourinho, took part once again in the Albufeira Winter Cup, having ended the friendly competition with a 3-0 victory over Dutch side RKC Waalwijk.
English forward Tammy Abraham scored the first goal, while Nicolo Zaniolo netted the second and third to secure the win.
The final match of the tournament’s second edition was played at on December 22 at the Albufeira Municipal Stadium following a 1-0 loss to Spanish club Cádiz and a 1-0 win over the surprising success story of the Portuguese league this year, fifth-placed and recently-promoted Casa Pia.
Albufeira Mayor, José Carlos Rolo, stressed the importance of the return of a “world-class club and a world-famous coach” to the town.
“This visit reinforces the municipality’s ambition to become European City of Sport in 2026,” said Rolo.
Deputy Mayor, Cristiano Cabrita, added that Albufeira has been “showing in recent years its enormous capacity to welcome high-performance athletes and events.”
“The investment in infrastructures and the quality of sports facilities are, with all certainty, part of the success of these events,” Cabrita added.
The training camp was hailed as a “very positive experience” by AS Roma’s general manager, Tiago Pinto, due to the “conditions offered” by the municipality and local sports club Imortal FC and the “friendliness” of the people of Albufeira.
Pinto added that “AS Roma hopes to return to Albufeira someday.”
