Artist exposes “crime” of minister who threw ‘dozens of books’ into rubbish

Lisbon artist Alexandre Estrela was horrified when he realised former economy minister Manuel Pinho had dumped dozens of books (on economy) just 500 metres from a library that specialised in books … on the economy. He felt it was “criminal”. So he retrieved them for distribution among grateful recipients. But he kept some back, which he has used to mount a tongue-in-cheek exhibition now showing in Porto called “Pinho’s rubbish”.

It has to be said Manuel Pinho has been in the eye of the authorities for years now over the so-called ‘EDP case’ (of suspected corruption) and allegations that he ‘favoured the Espírito Santo group’ during his time in government.

It’s very possible that the EDP case could, eventually, come to nothing (click here), but in the meantime this latest embarrassment for Manuel Pinho is running until January 25 at the Espaço Sismógrafo, in Rua da Alegria 416, Porto.
