A NEW exhibition by award winning artist José Carlos Fernandes will open to the public at the Galeria de Arte da Marina de Albufeira on November 19 at 5pm.
The exhibition will feature a selection of his original drawings, which have been published on a weekly basis in Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias, and excerpts from his recent publication, A Última Obra-prima de Aaron Slobodj (Devir, 2005), which won two awards at the Festival Internacional de Banda Desenhada da Amadora 2005.
José Carlos Fernandes was born in Loulé in 1964 and did not take any formal art training. In fact, his artistic talent was discovered quite by accident … He applied to begin a correspondence course for door to door selling, but, somehow, an administrative error occurred and he was enrolled on an art course instead. The rest, as they say, is history.
A Última Obra-prima de Aaron Slobodj (Devir, 2005) was written and designed in 1997, but it took eight years to find a publisher to print it. Proving the early doubters wrong, the book won a prize recently at the Festival Internacional de BD da Reboleira.
The exhibition is open daily from 1.30pm to 7.30pm.
