Lovers of art and hiking will be delighted to know that the ‘Walk & Art Fest’ is returning to Barão de São João in Lagos between November 5 and 7.
Promising a programme filled with activities for all ages, the festival will once again combine hiking and art into a unique event.
“Barão de São João is a village known for its intense artistic life, which is the result of the active participation of the local Portuguese and foreign community of artists who have lived there for many years,” say organisers.
This year, 11 local artists have joined forces to create ‘Countercycle’, a “collective artistic installation” consisting of 12 art pieces that can be found along a 3km route, spanning the village and surrounding forest.
“The theme ‘Countercycle’ appears as an active response to the moment we are going through. After the trial by fire that we were all subjected to with the pandemic, it is time to question whether the return to the so-called “pre-Covid normality”, which we have been eagerly awaiting, should not be an opportunity to break the cycle of ideas and behaviour that led us until now and that have degraded our common home – the Earth,” organisers explain.
“This year’s art installation encourages visitors to reflect on what each of us can change and, above all, to act accordingly.”
Many other activities are planned, from walks to workshops and even a concert by Tiago Saga, a Portuguese-British musician living in Brighton, best known as the lead singer of Time for T.
Also scheduled are well-being activities, events for children and mountain biking routes.
All activities are free but must be booked in advance.
The event is organised by Lagos Council and environmental association Almargem.
