Art in Colares

news: Art in Colares

FOR ART lovers, the place to be last Saturday was undoubtedly the Galeria Casa de Santa Rita in Colares. The Resident went along to meet Catarina Castro Freire and Mary St. George, who opened a joint exhibition of their outstanding pieces of art.

Catarina Castro Freire was born in Lisbon and studied in a number of UK Art Colleges for many years. She has worked in etching for 25 years. In this exhibition, we see her approaches to several themes, including animals and the Serra de Sintra.

Mary St. George was born in the US and has studied in the UK, obtaining her diploma in architecture in 1979. She was head of art and design at St Julian’s School (1996-1999) in Carcavelos, and has been drawing and painting since she trained as an architect. Her work includes a series of conté drawings of a local traditional stonemason, and drawings and etchings of panoramic views of the Serra de Sintra.

Some of the etchings of both artists have been reworked with colour, making them unique prints. This exhibition is a must for art lovers and shows exceptional works by both artists.

The exhibition runs until September 15, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 2.30pm to 7pm.
