Art and wine at Lagoa Adega Cooperativa

A new art gallery is due to open next month at the historical Adega Cooperativa in Lagoa, located at the main entrance to the city centre on the EN125.

Called Galeria da Adega, the opening is on Saturday, May 7 at 3pm and on show will be works by well known Portuguese artists, painter Stela Barreto and sculptor António da Cunha.

António’s work is described as a combination of classical harmony and beauty. His previous exhibitions at Galeria Porca Preta in Monchique attracted much interest.

Stela Barreto, who also used to have her work on show at the Monchique gallery, is known for her expressive paintings depicting urban scenes, landscapes and portraits.

Last year she was the first Portuguese artist to be invited to participate in the BMW arts calendar event in Berlin.

Rolf Osang from Galeria da Adega told the Algarve Resident: “All your readers are invited to the opening and also to try the wines of the Adega Cooperativa do Algarve.”

Galeria da Adega is found on the right-hand side of the Adega and is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm. Entrance is free.

The  exhibition will run until June 1.
