Art and music combine in Albufeira exhibition

The rhythm of music and contrasting colours combine in a series of expressive paintings in acrylic by the Byelorussian artist Natallia Yaskevich at the Galeria de Arte Pintor Samora Barros in the old quarter of Albufeira, which is on show from March 2 until March 26.

The exhibition is entitled ‘Listen To The Music’ and musical instruments are the theme chosen by the artist.

“The figure as well as landscape is an object of study in my work and they both exercise great fascination for me in a desire to develop a voluptuous vision and constantly question our place in the world,” she says in her catalogue.

Born in Byelorussia in 1977, the artist has lived and worked in Portugal since 2001 and is a teacher of art at the Conservatório Regional do Algarve Maria Campina,at Fundação INATEL and at her own art gallery, Arteidea.

She received her degree in Painting and Graphic Arts from the Vitebsk State University in 1999.

In 2008, she won first prize in an open air rapid painting competition in Ayamonte and was third prize winner in a similar competition in Vila Real de Santo António the same year (II Concurso de Pintura Rápida ao Ar Livre).

Her work is in private and public collections in Spain, England, France, South Africa, USA, the Russian Federation, Sweden and Germany.
