POLICE ARRESTED a 50-year-old Portuguese man, last Wednesday, on charges of arson at the residence of Lagos Câmara President, Júlio Barroso.
The arsonist is a disgruntled former employee of the câmara and revenge is believed to be the motive according to police sources. The fire began in a cupboard at Barroso’s home in Ameijeira, Lagos, at around 9.30pm on February 11, the volunteer bombeiros were called to the scene. No injuries were sustained during the fire and there was not extensive structural damage to the building.
The former employee confessed to starting the fire in Barroso’s house and was present in court last Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
