Squirrels have been blamed for causing a fire at the house of the former Attorney General, Lord Mayhew, in Kent, UK.
It is believed that the squirrels gnawed their way through cables, starting the blaze at the property, at which fire fighters had to spend almost two hours to put the fire out.
Lord Mayhew said: “The fire broke out in a void behind an airing cupboard and the most probable cause was squirrels chewing through cables.”
A spokeswoman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said that the cause of the fire was as yet unknown but squirrels chewing wire, and the wires igniting, “does sometimes happen”.
