THE POLICIA JUDICIÁRIA (PJ) in Lisbon has arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of lighting forest fires in the area of Cadaval. According to the police, the incidents happened in 2004 and valuable patrimony was put in danger. It was only due to the rapid response from the local bombeiros that the fires, which had been started in a very vulnerable area, did not spread. The judge who heard the case decided against a prison sentence, preferring to apply a probation order.
