REPRESENTATIVES OF the Portuguese armed forces gathered at the war memorial in Lisbon’s Avenida da Liberdade, on November 11, to honour the fallen of the Great War.

In the ceremony that marked Armistice Day, which observed a minute’s silence for the fallen at 11am, wreaths were laid by the Secretary of State for National Defence and Maritime Affairs, Manuel Lobo Antunes, the Secretary of State for Defence, Luís Amado, the President of the Liga dos Combatentes, General Chito Rodrigues, and the British Defence Attaché, Neil Sibbit. Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the French, Russian, Spanish, Brazilian and German embassies.
