An armed robber who preys on women tourists in the Albufeira area is still at large after carrying out more than a dozen terrifying assaults over the last five weeks.
Carrying a pistol and hiding his identity with a hood, the villain strikes usually after midnight in the open street as tourists are returning to their hotels after a late night out at a local bar, club or restaurant.
Invariably, his victims are foreign women on holiday and he struck twice again this week in the same early hours of the morning.
The first was a Dutch tourist who was threatened with a pistol in Avenida da Liberdade near Lidl supermarket and robbed of her mobile phone and bag.
A few hours later a group of six young women returning to their hotel near Albufeira Jardim were targeted. One of the women tried to fight back and was punched by the assaulter, who fled the scene with their handbags.
The robber, described as about 25 years of age, is causing concern among tourists in the area, according to a report in Correio de Manhã newspaper.
The PJ police are investigating the latest two crimes but meanwhile the criminal is still evading detection.
