An armed burglar hoping for rich pickings from the offices of EDP at Viana do Castelo’s Eiffel bridge got a rude shock on Monday when staff explained there was no money on the premises. The man had burst at a moment when there were not even any clients in evidence. Once staff had explained that there was no money anywhere, the man made off in his car.
A source for the PSP told reporters that he had demanded money as he waved his gun at the tills, “but as there was none, he ran away”.
Viana do Castelo’s famous bridge was constructed by French civil engineer Gustave Eiffel in 1875.
