Work has started to refurbish Armação de Pêra’s beach front, at an estimated cost of around six million euros.
The refurbishment, which is being carried out by Mota-Engil, is expected to take nine months to complete and will include more green spaces and calçada along pedestrianised streets (see The Resident edition November 21).
“This work is an old wish of the population and the Câmara, and will give a new face to this fishing and tourist town,” said Silves Câmara President Isabel Soares. Although she recognises that the work will cause inconvenience to the local population, she added: “In commercial terms, the improvements will benefit the area by creating better access for traffic and pedestrians.”
