Argentinian mother and daughter killed in horrific head-on crash in Castro Verde

A trip to Portugal to celebrate a honeymoon ended in tragedy for an Argentinian family after two women – mother and daughter, aged 77 and 53 – died in a violent head-on crash in Castro Verde in the Alentejo region on Wednesday (February 12).

The daughter’s husband, 60, and the driver of the other vehicle, a 41-year-old Portuguese man, sustained minor injuries, while the couple’s children, 20 and 17, were seriously injured and had to be rushed to the José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital in Beja.

According to reports in the national press, the family had been in Castro Verde and were on their way to the Algarve when they crashed head-on into another car at a junction between the EN2 and IP2 roads.

The family are described as Cláudio Sauan and Marisa Parlatore, the couple who were celebrating their honeymoon, and their children Juliana and Leonel, as well as the woman’s mother Evelina.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the local GNR police.
