Portugal’s associations of architects and engineers have said today there should be “a national plan” to fix the country’s housing crisis. Expressing their willingness to contribute to the design of the “best and most appropriate policies”, the organisations consider that the country’s housing needs, “which are urgent and have to be resolved with determination, should be mitigated through the State’s own promotion mechanisms, notwithstanding the freedom of private initiative”. The State should be the “main driver of projects that respond to the housing needs faced by the population”, says a joint statement.
