Appeal underway after Scottish teen dies suddenly on holiday in Portugal

Jack Pollock was days away from celebrating 15th birthday

A GoFundMe appeal is underway following the heartbreaking death of a Scottish teen while on holiday with his mother and younger brother in Portugal.

Jack Pollock was days away from celebrating his 15th birthday.

He died suddenly last Thursday, here in Portugal.

There are no details of the circumstances, or of the location. A friend has taken it on herself to help Jack’s devastated family face the costs now of transporting his body back to Edinburgh for the funeral.

Reports describe Jack’s exceptional gift as a boxer. His father Darryl has spoken with local newspaper Edinburgh Live, describing his son’s dedication to the sport, while boxing trainer David Barclay wrote a heartbreaking tribute to the youngster over social media.

Tragedies like this leave everyone feeling helpless. The GoFundMe appeal target of £5,000 has already been surpassed and keeps growing.

Says the text: “We know that no amount of money will ever bring Jack back, but if we can help to ease the pressure and take a little bit of load off the family, then we will try our best. If you are financially able and wish to donate, please do so. The family hugely appreciate all of the support.

“All monies raised will go directly to Jack’s mum” Johan who is still in Portugal going through the process of transporting her son home.

The Daily Mail adds that a Foreign Office spokesman has said: “‘We are supporting the family of a British child who has died in Portugal”.
