Animal association Cadela Carlota is appealing for a forever home with a difference. It needs to have a dog, or dogs, in it already who can act as the eyes for a blind pup handed in last November.
“Feisty Miranda” was discovered in a cardboard box outside a market in Portimão.
About seven weeks old, the woman who found her realised there was something wrong with the little girl’s eyes: they didn’t open.
Lots of specialist examinations later it has now been established that Miranda has a congenital eyeball deformity and will never be able to see.
But her courage and personality have charmed “everyone who has come into contact with her”, say rescuers, now hoping they will find a special forever home happy to take her.
Miranda will always be ‘petite’, they explain, “with a personality and loving nature that far outweighs her size”.
Canine eye specialist Cristina Seruca from VetOeiras in Lisbon has confirmed that there is nothing to stop Miranda from leading a “very normal life and being totally independent”: she just needs a sight buddy, or buddies, even.
Right now, she is at Cadela Carlota’s shelter in Odiaxere, living with eight other puppies, and receiving “no special treatment as she doesn’t feel different”. She just is, in so many positive ways.
