The Algarve’s environmental agency (APA) is carrying out “controlled demolition works” at Albufeira’s notorious cliff-fall Maria Luísa beach.
The works started on Wednesday and will continue until tomorrow (April 28) in what is described as a “preventive measure” to increase safety at the beach where five holidaymakers were killed in 2009 and where a second massive landslide shocked beachgoers last year.
According to APA data, 30 rockfalls have been registered along the Algarve coast since last summer.
