Anyone for golf?

The Golfers in the Sun (GITS) was formed in 2016 as a group of social golfers who raise funds for various charities.

They have played at Salgados, Pinheiros Altos, Quinta do Vale, Castro Marim and Benamor, to name but a few. GITS play from September to May and have between 20-36 players per event.  However, “we are always welcoming new GITS. We have raised €600 worth of medical equipment for the São Brás volunteer firefighters, and funds for São Francisco Canil, Santa Barbara Animal Help and ARA, the new animal rescue centre in Loulé. In March, GITS raised €275 for Casa das Raparigas (girls’ home) in Faro,” said Susan Martin from GITS.

The next event is on Friday, April 26 at Quinta do Vale (Castro Marim). Cost is €60 per person including buggy and there are still places available. A meal will follow at Chinese Oriental restaurant in Almancil at 8pm.

The chosen charity this time is Santa Barbara Animal Help, which helps rescue and re-home abandoned dogs and cats in the village. The volunteers run two feeding stations and help with sterilisation. They are always grateful for any donations and help.

Next month, GITS will be heading for Spain on Sunday, May 26 for golf at Costa Esuri.
