António Guterres re-elected for second term as secretary general of United Nations

Former Portuguese prime minister António Guterres has been unanimously re-elected for a second five-year term as secretary general of the United Nations. In a ceremony that took place in New York – attended by Portugal’s head of State President Marcelo – 72-year-old Mr Guterres promised to do ‘everything in his power to guarantee the reinforcement of confidence between large and small nations to build bridges’. President Marcelo took to the podium to describe Mr Guterres as “one of the best Portuguese in the world”.
