The number of messages anti-LGBTQI+ over social media in Portugal have increased 184.85% in the last four years, says a report published today, while support for the movement the initials of which apply to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people has diminished 12.05%. The report – highlighted by national media but not linked to directly – has been compiled by Brazilian consultancy LLYC which reportedly “analysed more than 169 million social media posts in the 12 countries where it is present, in global terms anti-LGBTQI+ hate speech recorded a 9.4% increase with a 41.25% decrease in supportive messages”. Brazil is featured in the IPSOS Pride Report 2023 as the country with the highest net percentage of LGBT+ adults.
