Another protest against bullfighting in Albufeira is taking place in the city on October 10 from 8pm.
The demonstration is again being organised by the CAAT (Cidade de Albufeira Anti-Touradas).
Organisers said: “People are angry by this barbaric torture of animals that many, driven by greed (money), call ‘tradition’ or ‘culture’.”
CAAT has held various protests outside the Albufeira bullring for the last year. It is now busy collecting signatures for a petition demanding its closure.
“We have also written to the President of the Câmara complaining about the degrading premises, which can be a risk to security. We have also complained to IGAC, who inspect and oversee the “show”, about children under the age of 12 being allowed in, but all our pleas fall on deaf ears,” said CAAT.
According to the group, in the last protest more than 30 tourists walked away from the arena, “after realising the pain that the animals were subjected to”.
Those interested in joining the anti-bullfighting protest should meet at the Rotunda da Corcovada (opposite Roberto’s chicken restaurant) at 8pm, for a slow march to the bullring.
