PORTUGAL’S PRESIDENT, Cavaco Silva, inaugurated the new headquarters of the national charity União das Misericórdias in Lisbon on Tuesday.
This ceremony, which was also attended by health minister Ana Jorge and the General Procurator Pinto Monteiro, took place during the 32nd anniversary celebrations of the charity. There are 400 branches managed by the União das Misericórdias, which was founded in Viseu, northern Portugal, in 1976.
As well as supporting the poor, elderly and sick in Portugal, they also provide help in Portuguese speaking countries and to immigrant communities.
