The Algarve Juniors sung, danced and acted their way through a two-hour production of the popular “Annie, the musical” on June 12, raising over €750 through ticket sales and snack/bar takings. Half of this was donated to the Centro Comunitário de Vale Silves in Boliqueime, where the colourful and entertaining show took place.
With an audience of over 100 people, the children, aged from five to 17, professionally delivered a 10-scene version of the musical on the large stage. Lines had been well learnt and were delivered fluently.
The musical featured stunning solo songs from Natasha Vieira (17) and Daisy-Mae Denton (13), dramatic performances from Nikolay Kalinina (13), Jack Patterson (9), Alice and Amber Watts (13 and nine) plus energetic hip hop/character/jazz dance choreography led in part by exceptional dancer Daniela Lyth Santos (14).
Highlights included the entire group singing and dancing to the classics ‘Tomorrow’, ‘You’re never fully dressed without a smile’ and ‘It’s a hard knock life’.
The second half of the show brought a contemporary piano piece by Alice Watts accompanied by a group of confident singers and the show came to its colourful neon conclusion with an uplifting song and dance combo to Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ mixed into ‘I’ve had the time of my life’.
The Algarve Juniors performing Arts Club has now stopped for the summer. When the classes resume for dance, singing and drama in September at The Aquashow Park Hotel, the 30-plus children will be working towards next year’s production of ‘Grease, the Musical’.
