Animalife holds weekend food drive to help over 25,000 animals

Lisbon-based animal association Animalife will be at Continente Modelo supermarkets and Pet & Plants stores throughout the country this weekend (May 7-8) in a bid to raise at least 250 tons of food for its ‘Banco Solidário Animal’ (BSA).

Anyone can contribute by donating food or other pet-related items (leads, collars, food bowls, litter bags, hygiene and deworming products), or by volunteering to help out during the campaign.

Donations will go to the 130-plus associations that Animalife supports and which care for over 25,000 cats and dogs.

Satisfied with the success of previous food drives, Animalife says the number of donations has grown every year.

Last year, for example, over 460 tons of food was raised – 60 tons more than in 2014.

The number of volunteers has also increased, with 3,000 people expected to take part this year.

Animalife will also be accepting donations during the following weekend (May 14-15) at Continente hypermarkets and Continente Bom Dia stores.
