Animal rights

A protest against using animals in circuses was due to take place today (Thursday 8) in front of the Portuguese parliament, Assembleia da República, in Lisbon.

Karley Aida, an ex-lion tamer, as well as many other circus artists and members of the animal rights group Acção Animal, were due to protest from 2pm in favour of new laws proposed by Portugal’s left wing party, Bloco de Esquerda which were to be discussed and voted on in parliament that same afternoon.
