A mayor from the South Texas town of Brownsville in the US was accused of breaking into a second storey apartment as he tried to rescue a dog he thought was in distress.
Mayor Pat Ahumada said that he had received a call from a local TV station saying that a Great Dane was stuck on a balcony.
With that, the mayor alerted emergency workers immediately before going to the location himself, scaling a fire department ladder and entering the property to help the dog.
The mayor soon realised his mistake when he found the dog was not in distress and the owner of the apartment found him standing in the kitchen.
“He broke into my house,” said the owner. “My dog is very well taken care of. He shouldn’t have done that.”
