A new charity shop to raise money for Loulé-based animal shelter Animal Rescue Algarve will open this Saturday (January 11) in Almancil.
The shop will be named Wooff – Worn Only Once Fashion & Furniture – and will sell second-hand furniture and clothes that have only been used once or that are in mint condition.
Says ARA, “only good quality furniture and clean clothes are accepted, with no stains or damage”.
Anyone can make a donation and choose between receiving 40% of the profits of the item when it is sold or donating the proceeds entirely to ARA.
Another way people can help is by volunteering to work at the store which will be run “by volunteers only”.
Everyone is being invited to take part in the store’s inauguration event which will take place between 10am and 3pm. Guests can enjoy a free glass of Prosecco while learning more about how they can help ARA.
Wooff will be located in the centre of Almancil on Rua Cristóvão Pires Norte. During winter, it will be open between 10am and 3pm from Monday to Friday and between 10am and 1pm on Saturday.

Petition already signed by 6,300
Readers may recall that ARA is battling against an order to demolish its purpose-built shelter because it was constructed ‘illegally’ in REN (ecological reserve) land (click here).
ARA’s founder, local restaurateur Sid Richardson, told the Resident in November that the council’s stance is nonsense.
“I spent over three years in negotiations with the authorities to try and find the ‘perfect’ site. Nothing was ever feasible. In the end, I had to move forwards for the sake of the animals”.
Meantime, a petition to save the kennel from demolition has already been signed by over 6,300 people (click here).
