Members of the Angels Theatre Group raised €5,000 in aid of the Bombeiros in São Brás through their performance of Variety on Stage, which took place on June 4.
Guest artists of various nationalities were invited to take part in the gala evening, with the show aiming to provide entertainment for all tastes including classic and contemporary music, with all performers giving their time for the show for free.
Nidia Amaro, the president of São Brás de Alportel Bombeiros, spoke to the audience after the show and highlighted the fact that both the local and foreign population of the area welcomed the chance to show real solidarity for this common cause.
Various local businesses sponsored the show by supplying the welcome drink, donating raffle prizes, flower arrangements and cakes.
The shows produced by the Angels Theatre Group aim to raise money for local worthy causes while also offering an opportunity for collaboration between the different communities of the Algarve and, according to organisers, the presentation of Variety on Stage “left all concerned, both the audience and the performers, with a real sense of solidarity and common purpose”.
