Ancient sculpted stone found by Tâmega River

An ancient stone, etched by hand, has been found by the banks of the Tâmega River, in Vila Boa do Bispo, Marco de Canaveses.
According to archaeologist Luís Sousa, the stone could be 6,000 years old, and is an example of “the oldest form of art” created in the area.
Talking to journalists, Sousa said the stone had very possibly been part of a larger section of prehistoric rock art, associated with the worship of water.
