An extremely efficient natural therapy now available in Portugal

Hirudotherapy is a type of therapy that uses medicinal leeches to treat and prevent a number of different illnesses. The name derives from the Latin word ‘hirunas’, which means leech.
The use of leeches in therapy dates back to ancient times. There are records of it having been used 5,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt’s medicine and included in the first manual of Western medicine written by Hippocrates – widely considered the ‘father’ of Western medicine.
There are over 300 species of leeches, but only two of them carry hirudin – a multi-enzyme with numerous proven therapeutic benefits – in their salivary glands. These species used to exist only in North America and Eastern Europe, where the therapy developed to the point of being used in public hospitals. But the therapy is now starting to grow also in Europe.
The leeches used are bred in specialised factories, ensuring their safe and hygienic usage.
Hidurotherapy is effective fighting a large number of illnesses, including cardiovascular issues such as hypertension, varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, varicose ulcers, haemorrhoids, but also prostate problems, edemas, arthritis, uterine and ovarian myomas, liver diseases, high cholesterol, migraine headaches, skin problems etc, whilst also promoting the drainage of the lymphatic system and the cleansing and smoothing of blood. It is totally natural, safe, and effective.
It is important that is it is performed by a qualified therapist and proof of his/her certification should be demanded. In Portugal, there are only three qualified hirudotherapists.
