THE WEST London Sinfonia is to give a concert in Vilamoura on July 9. The event is being sponsored by Vila Sol Spa & Golf Resort Hotel, where the concert will be taking place, and is in aid of Associação de Solidariedade com as Crianças Carenciadas do Algarve (ACCA), a registered Portuguese charity, which offers a comprehensive support service for children living below the poverty line in the Algarve.
The West London Sinfonia was formed in 1970 and is composed of musical enthusiasts, mostly professional musicians, who get together several times a year to give concerts and make recordings. The Orchestra has given concerts not only in England, but also in France, Germany and Italy. The musicians play for fun, but demand of themselves very high standards. As the Orchestra is unpaid, much of the money raised will go to ACCA.
The conductor is Philip Hesketh, who is musical director of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, St. Peter’s Camerata and The London Children’s Ballet. The leader is Philippa Barton, who, after leaving The Royal College of Music, joined The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. She now plays in different orchestras, including The BBC Symphony Orchestra and The London Mozart Players.
The evening begins at 7pm with wine and soft drinks served in the foyer of the hotel. After the concert, a buffet dinner will be provided, when members of the orchestra will join the audience. Tickets cost 60 euros each for the concert and dinner and can be obtained from Vila Sol Spa & Golf Resort Hotel reception on Tel 289 320 320, Fax 289 320 321; ACCA – Jane Oliphant on 919 383 593; Renata Lane on Tel 289 328 673, Fax: 289 328 287, Mobile 919 267179; or Barringtons reception on Tel 289 351 940 (cash or cheque only).
