An evening of classical Portuguese guitar

Two accomplished musicians will perform festive season concerts on December 28 and January 4 at the Centro Cultural São Lourenço near Almancil.

Miguel Drago and Pedro Frias play classical guitar and the two concerts will feature a variety of music composed by Carlos and Artur Paredes (December 28) and Bach, Schubert, João Bagão, José Nunes and Pedro Frias (January 4).

Miguel Drago has studied Portuguese guitar under the guidance of Jorge Gomes at the Fado School of the Coimbra Academic Association (AAC).

Including many years of teaching traditional Portuguese guitar, Drago also specialises in interpreting Artur Paredes’ music and has recorded four albums of Artur Paredes as well as several Fado albums.

He is also a member of the internationally renowned fado group Verdes Anos.

Pedro Frias is a native of Lagos in the Algarve and has been playing classical music from a very early age. He is largely self-taught, starting with piano and later developing a passion for the guitar.

As a composer and lyricist Frias started the Pedro Frias Band in 2004, recording a variety of music accompanied by female vocalists. He has also composed the theme music for a Dutch foundation, Kids to Move.

Concerts are arranged in association with AMIGOS, an international group who support the musical activities at the centre.

For members of the group, entry is free and €25 for non-members.

Membership details can be found at www.amigos-de-musica.org.

All concerts start at 7.30pm sharp with wine and lemonade served at 7pm and an interval where canapés will be served.
