An elegant rosé from a Douro newcomer

This rosé arrived recently on the shelves at Apolónia and the elegant design along with one of those natty glass (rather than cork or a screw top) stoppers caught my eye.

I knew nothing of the producer, but a quick look at the website revealed that QPA is a recent project of a group of friends from Portugal, France, the UK and Australia, who got together to take over an old wine estate in the Douro Valley back in 2018.

This is their first rosé wine, made last year from the Touriga Nacional grape. On the nose, there is seductive red fruit along with some citric notes, rounded in the mouth, with just a touch of acidity, leading to a slightly off-dry but immensely fresh finish.

All in all, a very easy-drinking rosé of above average quality, representing good value for money at €9.95.
