Even before it became a business for him, antiques have always had a special place in the life of Hugo Batalha, who was used to seeking treasures within the contents of old houses, auctions, private sales or other opportunities that arose by chance.
Thus, he started collecting an assortment of pieces dating back many centuries, from the most precious to those that deserve to be kept just for their historical value.
Over time, his collection of assets started growing and, in September 2021, Hugo decided to open his own store, Batalha Collection, on Rua Rebelo da Silva, 47, in the centre of Faro. The selection is ecclectic and features vintage items, a favourite among younger generations.
“I have a little of everything: Persian carpets, sculptures, paintings, religious art, African art, crucifixes, ivories, eastern porcelain, furniture from different periods, and even ultra-modernist lamps,” says Hugo Batalha.
Art, especially paintings, are one of the highlights of the store, from Naïve art from guest and emerging artists to impressionists, as well as classical works of the Baroque style.
“Today, even people who have modern houses like to have something that stands out, which gives character and a unique touch to their decorations. It can be an old mirror, a special lamp or a historical piece. After all, our home reflects who we are and what we like.”
The store is open Monday through Friday from 11am to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
