Amorosa community celebrates 82nd birthday of long-term resident

April 25 was not only Liberty Day in Portugal, but it also marked special birthday celebrations in Amorosa, São Bartolomeu de Messines.

Pat and Barrie Skipper have lived in Amorosa for more than 20 years and have always been active members of the community.  They have been involved with various charity events over the years to help their neighbourhood, raising funds for vital equipment for the Bombeiros, providing bicycles for the cadets, hosting several ‘Harvest Festivals’ to provide food for various needy charities, such as Castelo de Sonhos in Silves and Casa do Povo in Messines.

This outstanding contribution was rewarded on Tuesday, April 25 at a lunch to celebrate Pat’s 82nd birthday as well as Liberty Day at A.R.C.A. (Associação Recreativa e Cultural da Amorosa).

They were presented with gifts from the presidents of Silves Town Hall (Rosa Palma), Messines Parish Council (Carla Benedito) and A.R.C.A (Belarmino Lopes Custódio), a commemorative set of medals, a wall tile painting of the church in Messines and a photo encased in glass of Pat and Barrie.

Having reached the ages of 82 and 84, they are content to pop into the ‘Sociedade’ (A.R.C.A.) to meet friends and have a coffee.
