The Algarve Pirates are preparing for their third season, the Portuguese American Football League (Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Americano).
Practices have begun on Tuesdays at 9pm and Thursdays at 9.30 pm at the Mexilhoeira Grande Sports Complex, between Portimão and Lagos. Tryouts (Captações) will continue through October.
The team has equipment for new players to use. The players who are learning this full-contact sport are mostly Portuguese (but with players from six or seven different countries) from the western Algarve.
Businesses are also being sought as sponsors for the team. The Pirates actively partner with their sponsors to promote the business through special events and appearances, online videos and others.
