The Oceânico Group inaugurated a newly built sports club at the Amendoeira resort on Tuesday, with top quality facilities for a wide range of sporting activities.

During the inauguration, both local and internationally renowned sports men and women demonstrated their skills to the public at the facility.

These demonstrations included Louletano football club practising and playing a match on the new, full size, natural grass pitch, children training with John Aldridge on one of the Astroturf five-a-side football pitches, cricket, tennis and beach volleyball games, among others.

Co-founder of the Oceânico Group, Gerry Fagan, told the Algarve Resident: “We are hoping to promote these new facilities to international teams during the winter season, and owners and visitors will benefit from them all year round.”

He added: “The investment in the Sports Club was around 2.7 million euros and it will be a major advantage for everyone, including owners and occupants at the resort.”

Some of the facilities at the new Amendoeira Sports Club include six Savannah tennis courts with professional coaching and video analysis of individual play, a fully equipped gymnasium with personal trainers, a five-a-side beach football and volleyball pitch and a kids’ sports and play area.

In the evening, the inaugural Oceânico Par 3 Challenge golf tournament was also played on the floodlit academy course, with renowned players such as Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington and Michael Campbell participating.

Kiss FM radio DJ Owen Gee was on hand to draw the winner of the Better Living in Portugal (BLiP) exhibition prize draw. The prize of a 100 euro voucher to spend at the Sports Club went to Aldina Martins.
