An ambulance has killed a man who was walking in the middle of the EN125 on the Faro to Albufeira stretch of road. The accident happened at 1.45am, when a car overtook the ambulance in a section of duel carriageway near Quatro Estradas. The ambulance was not sounding its emergency siren and was returning to Faro Hospital at the time.
According to a source from Albufeira’s volunteer bombeiros, a man dressed in dark colours was walking in the same lane as the ambulance and did not seem to have realised how close the vehicle was. It is understood that, at the time of the accident, the ambulance was only using dipped headlights so as not to blind the driver who was overtaking. It is believed this may have obscured the driver’s visibility.
