Amazon is studying the possibility of opening a logistics centre in Badajoz.
The multinational online digital retail platform could occupy a 200,000m2 parcel of land next to a major highway and rail link on the Portuguese border with Spain according to the Spanish regional newspaper Hoy.
In the initial phase, this logistics centre could create around 1000 direct jobs. That number could double in subsequent years.
Amazon intends to use the centre to send parcels all over Europe.
Because of its geographical location, the goods that will feed into this logistics centre could arrive from the ports of Sines and Setúbal.
