Amazon and Google invest in Portuguese startup

Amazon and Google have invested around €1 million in Portuguese startup company Doppio.

The startup, which focuses on voice-controlled games, will use the investment to bolster its team and invest in developing new games.

Doppio launched its first game “The Vortex” in October 2018 for Amazon Alexa and in January this year for Google Assistant.

The ‘Made in Portugal’ company plans to launch its second game in the last quarter of this year and continues to support its first project “The Vortex”.

“The investment is a vote of confidence in the great potential of talking games. There are already millions of voce-controlled devices, but there are few games that take advantage of the unique opportunities created by voice technology,” explains Jeferson Valadares, CEO of Doppio Games.

Other investors include Lasse Seppanen of Supercell, Alexis Bonte of Stillfront & Atomico and David Helgason of Unity.

The startup founded in 2018 and which focuses entirely on voice-controlled game development is based at an incubator at the University of Porto’s Science and Technology Park (UPTEC).
