AMAL President re-elected

Macário Correia, the new President of Faro Câmara, has been re-elected for a third term as President of the Algarve Câmaras Association (AMAL).

Upon officially taking office earlier this month, Macário Correia outlined the new railway link to Spain, the refurbishment of the EN125 and the construction of the Algarve Central Hospital as priority projects for the association.

“We are going to work hard so that with the government’s budget for 2010, we can proceed with the refurbishment of the EN125 and the new Hospital Central do Algarve as well as a new railway line,” said Macário Correia.

He added that other issues of importance include a congress centre for the region and to continue the fight for regionalisation, so that the Algarve can have a greater share of decision making power.

Before his new post as Faro Mayor, Macário Correia was President of Tavira Câmara for more than 10 years.
