Alvor hosts walk to raise breast cancer awareness

Early detection of breast cancer is considered vital

Portimão is once again joining international movement Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a charity walk in Alvor on October 30.

The event, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer, will allow walkers to choose from a five-kilometre or eight-kilometre path.

The meeting point will be at the Alvor Sports Complex, with the walks beginning at 10am after a 30-minute warmup.

Signing up costs €5 per person (participants are free to pay more if they like, with proceeds going to the Portuguese League Against Cancer) and includes a t-shirt, water and insurance. Registrations can be competed at the Portimão Gimnodesportivo pavilion office on weekdays from 9am to 2pm and at the Alvor sports complex office on weekdays from 8am to 7pm.

The event was born from a partnership between Portimão Council and the Regional Centre of the South of the Portuguese League Against Cancer, with the support of a community team providing support to the palliative care services of the Algarve health centre group, and local gym Gymnasium Portimão.
