The picturesque fishing village of Alvor (Portimão) has been included in a list of the “25 emerging destinations in the world” created by online travel website TripAdvisor.
Alvor is one of the Algarve’s most popular tourist destinations, boasting many hotels, restaurants, bars and shops.
As TripAdvisor points out, “this former fishing village on Portugal’s southern coast has become a popular resort”.
“Spend a day on Alvor’s main beach, or find one of the smaller, secluded coves along the coastline. In the evening, stroll through the town’s narrow cobblestone streets, dine on fresh local seafood, and enjoy live music at one of the many lively bars,” the website recommends.
TripAdvisor explains that its trending and emerging destination award-winners were determined using an algorithm that measured year-over-year increase in positive TripAdvisor traveller review ratings for accommodations, restaurants and attractions, and increase in booking interest and searches across destinations worldwide.
For the emerging destination category, year-over-year ‘Saves data’ from TripAdvisor travellers was also factored into the methodology.
It adds that travellers can “save” their travel ideas and plans on TripAdvisor by tapping the heart icon on places to stay, restaurants, and things to do. This lets travellers keep track of their travel plans and remember them for later.
