Altice (MEO) workers on strike over collective dismissal

It’s the first ‘collective dismisal’ in six years, and Altice workers fear it won’t be the last. Staging a protest outside the telecoms firm’s base in Lisbon this week, syndicates vow further action. “This is a marathon, not a 100 metre sprint”, syndicate leader Francisco Gonçalves told reporters, adding that in workers’ opinions the situation is political, in that Altice is blaming regulators (ANACOM) and the government for not agreeing with the company’s view of how business should run (click here). For now, the collective dismissal at play involves around 200 workers.
